The next Galaxy Unpacked leaks in GIFs
The Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, S21 FE, Galaxy Watch 4, and new Galaxy Buds are all shown off in this onslaught of leaks.
Summary
Evan Blass has published a ton of images and information on Samsung’s upcoming August 11th Galaxy Unpacked event.
The tweets he’s sent out include peaks at new devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Z Flip 3, the S21 FE, and more.
While not confirmed by Samsung, these leaks are our best look yet at what Samsung has in store for next month.
Tech leaks are a dime a dozen nowadays given how frequently they happen. However, there’s only a handful of significant leaks that happen every year. These leaks tend to surface around the time a company is about to announce something new. This specific scenario has occurred with Samsung who’s lineup of devices for the next Galaxy Unpacked has leaked in various tweets.
Evan Blass, a serial leaker in the tech community, is behind the surfacing of multiple images that show off the new gadgets. We’re talking the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Z Flip 3, S21 FE, Galaxy Watch 4, and new Galaxy Buds. He even leaked the day when the next Galaxy Unpacked will be: August 11th.
Here’s a taste of the action.
Each product is shown off in detail in 360-degree renders. The Z Fold 3’s two screens are represented well (how hard is it to hide a folding screen or one that looks like a candy bar?). Meanwhile, the Z Flip 3 can be seen doing what it does best: flip.
Other devices like the Galaxy S21 FE (a cheaper S21) and the Galaxy Watch 4 receive simple roundabouts. On the other hand, the new Galaxy Buds get pretty fancy with their animations that show off their new design and case.
Of course, none of these leaks have been confirmed by Samsung, so take them with a grain of salt. That being said, given past leaks and Blass’ track record, this might be the complete onslaught of new devices Samsung will be sharing on August 11th.
1. Samsung Galaxy S22 camera might weigh in at 200MP
Samsung might go absolutely crazy with the next Galaxy S smartphone. The company’s rumored S22 will reportedly come with a huge 200MP main camera, up from 108MP on the S21 Ultra. This is according to Korean site PulseNews who also says the phone will come with Olympus optics branding as a result of a partnership. If this rules out to be true, it’d be one of the largest sensors available on the smartphone market, and there’s no telling how Samsung would utilize it.
2. The S Pen Pro hits the FCC
Also in Samsung news: the upcoming S Pen Pro has hit the FCC, and the filings confirm it’ll work with the Z Fold 3. Notably, support isn’t listed for the Z Flip 3. it’ll charge over USB-C and have a 100mAh battery inside. It’ll be a separate accessory like the S Pen is now for the S21 Ultra, and it’ll also likely debut on August 11th during the event.
3. Google name-drops the Pixel 6 and 6 XL
Google really sucks when it comes to protecting itself from leaks, and it seems things haven’t gotten better over last year. A Google Form that lets developers request certain optimizations for Pixel devices mentioned the yet-to-be-announced Pixel 6 and 6 XL in one of the fields. It was spotted by XDA-Developers. I don’t think this is confirmation Google is going with the XL branding for this year since past credible sources claim the larger device will have '“Pro” in its name, but I guess time will tell.
4. Android 12 adds the ability to play games while they install
Google announced today that with Android 12, you’ll be able to play the games you’re actively installing before their installation process is done. It uses the Play Asset Delivery system to open games “at least 2 times faster,” according to Google. The new feature was announced during Google’s Games Developer Summit 2021.
5. Gmail tries to build trust between brands and subscribers
Gmail is trying something new to build trust between brands and their subscribers by offering authenticated brand logos. These logos will help identify emails officially coming from the company they claim to be from, which could help with spam emails like fake transactions and requests. The logos use the DMARC standard through the Brand Indicators for Message Identification standard.
6. Apple’s next MacBook Pro will reportedly support UHS-II SD and up to 32GB of RAM
YouTuber Luke Miani has leaked some more details about Apple’s upcoming ARM-powered MacBook Pro. He says the laptop will come with an SD card slot that supports UHS-II which can get as high as 312mb/s when copying files. In addition, the laptop will reportedly come with an illuminated Touch ID sensor and up to 32GB of RAM. That last spec has been disputed by other sources such as Bloomberg in the past so it’s unclear how accurate it is.
7. Yup, it looks like we’re getting a redesigned iPad mini
Bloomberg has reported that the highly-rumored redesigned iPad mini is indeed on the way. The device will sport an iPad Air-like design with slim bezels, an 8.9-inch screen, and a Touch ID sensor in the power button. It’ll also have a faster processor. Currently, it’s believed the device will debut in the fall.
8. iPhone 13 Pro will exclusively get LiDAR, says report
Previous iPhone 13 rumors indicated that Apple’s entire lineup of 2021 smartphones would get a LiDAR sensor in their camera setups, but it doesn’t look like that will happen according to leaker DylanDKT. Instead, only the Pro models will get it like they have for the past couple of generations.
9. AT&T’s Unlimited Elite plan gets some upgrades
AT&T has announced subscribers to its Unlimited Elite plan will now enjoy zero throttling based on data usage, up to 40GB of hotspot data, and 4K streaming on cellular networks through the included HBO Max membership. These changes should start rolling out over the next couple of days.
10. LG gearing up to launch its 32-inch UltraFine OLED monitor
It looks like LG’s getting ready to launch the monitor that made headlines back at CES 2021 for offering an OLED panel. The new UltraFine OLED Pro monitor, complete with a UHD resolution and various ways to connect including USB-C, is being listed on sites like B&H Photo ahead of an expected launch on July 16th. The retail price of the 32-inch model will be $3,999. Meanwhile, it looks like an unannounced 27-inch model will go on sale in October for $2,999.
11. Verizon can now filter out spam numbers similar to yours
One method phone spammers use to make it more likely for you to answer their calls is to use a number that’s similar to yours. Luckily, carriers are catching on, and Verizon’s rolling out a new feature through its Cal Filter app that can filter them out and send them to voicemail. Called Neighborhood Filter, the feature will identify calls coming form numbers that are oddly similar to yours and block them from ringing, instead dropping them to you voicemail box. The Verge has a few extra details on specifics.
12. TikTok on your TV
It wouldn’t be a Wiretapped newsletter without some TikTok news. In the UK, France, and Germany, there’s now a TikTok app for your Fire TV that emulates the app to the T, just on the big screen. I would love to know if this is actually something people want, so please email me and tell me your thoughts.
