Sprint Announces it Will Carry a 5G Samsung Phone Later This Year
Late last year, both Verizon and AT&T announced they would carry a new Samsung phone equipped with 5G support. Today, Sprint is confirming the same thing, with the company stating the device will ship later this year.
“We are proud that our longstanding relationship with Samsung has delivered some of the most innovative mobile technologies to our customers over the years – and this tradition continues with 5G,” said Dr. John Saw, Sprint chief technology officer. “Samsung is one of our key 5G network infrastructure Massive MIMO providers, so we are delighted that they will also deliver one of our first 5G smartphones, putting blazing fast connectivity right into our customers’ hands.”
This might not be the device you’re thinking of, however. Verizon said it’ll offer one 5G Samsung device in the beginning of 2019, while AT&T said it would carry that phone plus another one later this year. Considering Sprint is targeting a summer release date, I’m assuming they’re talking about the second Samsung device, but I could be wrong.
Little to no information on what future Samsung phone will pack 5G has been given. We know Samsung’s working on a mysterious “Beyond X” phone that will reportedly come with it, but we don’t know about the Galaxy S10 or Note 10 as of yet. Therefore, until new details leak onto the web or an official announcement is made, we’ll be flying in the dark for a while.
