Back in August, Samsung announced its Galaxy Home smart speaker. It was mocked for its resemblance to an all-American barbecue and the fact it came with the company’s ill-fated Bixby voice assistant, but it at least packed some promising tech like an array of six speakers and eight microphones.
Unfortunately, Samsung’s been pretty radio silent on the device ever since its debut, and things don’t look like they’ll change until at least next week during CES 2019. However, a new report out of SamMobile claims Samsung might announce another Bixby speaker before it can even release its first one.
According to the publication who cites anonymous sources, Samsung is planning another Bixby-equipped speaker with the model number SM-V310. For reference, the Galaxy Home has a model number of SM-V510, indicating the mysterious device is probably another smart speaker. This also suggests there could be more devices in this particular lineup, although rumors are hush on those gadgets so far.
Unfortunately, SamMobile doesn’t know very much about this upcoming Bixby speaker, but there’s a good chance it’ll be a smaller and less powerful version of the standard Galaxy Home. Because of this, it’ll probably be sold around the $50 price range where both Google and Amazon compete with the Home Mini and Echo Dot, respectively. Since there aren’t any other reports to corroborate this information, however, we’re really taking a shot in the dark.
Until we hear more concrete rumors regarding this mysterious Samsung device, you’ll have to take this report with a grain of salt. That being said, 2019 should be an interesting year for Samsung in the smart home market nonetheless.
