Google Clock Now Supports Assistant Routines

Alongside a ton of updates for Smart Displays, Google has announced a new feature for its native Clock app that adds support for Google Assistant Routines. Now, when your alarm goes off in the morning, the Assistant can automatically fire off a specific Routine you set, whether that may mean turning on your coffee, checking the news, getting the weather, and/or turning on the lights. Of course, you can customize the Routine to your liking like before, but this is the first time it’s been able to trigger automatically after your alarm sounds in the morning.

To help streamline your morning, we’re rolling out this week Routines to the Clock app for Android phones. So after dismissing your alarm, the Google Assistant can immediately start a routine, triggering multiple things – like telling you about the weather and traffic on your commute to work, turning on your coffee maker and lights, playing the news, and more. You can customize your routine right from the Clock app.

Google also says in the future, you’ll be able to silence your smartphone simply by saying, “Hey Google, silence my phone.”

The Clock update should begin rolling out to all users over the coming weeks.
