Instagram has announced a new update it’s rolling out to its mobile app that allows users to share GIFs to friends within its Direct messaging section. Now, instead of being forced to send text, photos, or videos, you can send a GIF using Giphy integration much like you can in other messaging apps. It’s all in a way to improve the chatting experience for audiences who might use Instagram as their main text messaging app.
In any message thread, tap the new GIF button in the composer bar to open a library of the latest trending GIFs powered by GIPHY. Swipe through to see what’s currently trending or search using keywords or phrases to find the perfect GIF to make your friends laugh.
But that’s not all. Over on Twitter (ironically), Instagram also confirmed it’s rolling out the ability to tag your friends in videos. While you can’t directly tap on their face from within a video, you can use the new “Tag People” option when sharing a video to mention other users who may appear in your clip.
It’s here! Now you can tag your friends in the videos you share to feed. pic.twitter.com/NdZ2hLycmz
