Apple Updates HomePod w/ Multiple Timers, Song Lyric Search, Phone Calling
After announcing the update last week during the company’s event, Apple has begun rolling out new software to its HomePod smart speaker that brings some new functionality.
With the update, users can now set multiple timers to keep tabs on more than one thing. (It’s a feature Amazon and Google have had around on their smart speakers for a while, but Apple has oddly remained in the closet on this one up until now.) You can also search for songs by their lyrics. So by saying, “Hey Siri, play the song that goes Mama just killed a man,” you’ll probably begin hearing Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
In addition, you can now make and receive phone calls by using your connected iPhone, use Find My iPhone to locate lost devices, and use Siri Shortcuts to perform multiple actions using a custom voice command.
To update your HomePod, visit the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and check for updates. Alternatively, you can let the device update on its own since Apple has it programmed to upgrade automatically once new software becomes available.
