Apple’s got a busy rest of 2018 to get through what with new iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches, accessories, and more in the pipeline before New Year’s Eve. Now, a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac) is shedding light on another product category that will be updated this year: the iPad.
According to Kuo, the iPad Pro will reportedly drop the Lightning connector this year starting with the new bezel-less models. Kuo suggests the devices will use a USB-C connector instead, presumably so you can connect faster chargers and other accessories to your device. This seems pretty far fetched since every iPad to date has used one of Apple’s proprietary connectors, but this could very well be the year the company makes the switch to a more mainstream means of charging.
Other rumors mentioned in Kuo’s report are an 18W USB-C charger included in the box of the new iPads, Touch ID included with the upcoming 2018 MacBook that will replace the MacBook Air, ceramic backs on the Apple Watch Series 4, and a late September to early October launch date for the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone.
We’re just a couple of days away from Apple’s big event where they’ll unveil new iPhones and Apple Watches, although we could also see the new iPad and MacBook as well. Of course, this doesn’t seem likely, but we won’t know for sure until then so stay tuned.
