Motorola Unveils Two New Android One Phones

We’ve already seen many companies introduce their new smartphones at IFA 2018, and now it’s Motorola’s turn. In a blog post today, the company unveiled two new devices powered by Android One. Admittedly, they aren’t the best phones on paper, but they should provide a decent enough experience.

The first device is the Motorola One. It features a glass design and a 5.9-inch HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a pretty wide notch up at the top. Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB of RAM. The device also sports dual 13MP rear cameras and an 8MP selfie camera. And while we’re not exactly sure how big this device’s battery is, Moto does say you can get up to 6 hours of use out of a 20-minute charge thanks to TurboPower.

Moving one, we have the Motorola One Power. This device upgrades many of the areas where the standard Motorola One falls short. There’s a 6.2-inch 19:9 Full HD+ display this time around with a Snapdragon 636 chipset. It also comes with 64GB of internal storage and can be expanded to 256GB with a microSD card. In addition, you’ll get a 6-hour charge in as little as 15 minutes with TurboPower on this device. Meanwhile, the cameras remain identical to the One’s.

Of course, none of these features are the true headlining highlights of the devices. In fact, that honor goes to the software onboard. Motorola has chosen to go with Android One for the Motorola One and One Power (hence the names) based on Android 8.1 Oreo. This means users will be getting a near-stock experience with some Moto apps and customizations on top. This also means users can expect a good amount of updates, with Moto promising upgrades to both Android Pie and Android Q along with security patches for three years. If you don’t find any other reason to buy these phones, at least consider them for their great software.

Motorola says the One will launch in Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific in the coming months for €299. Meanwhile, the One Power will launch in India starting in October. Pricing hasn’t been unveiled for the latter just yet. Neither phone will make it to the US.
