Today at IFA 2018 in Berlin, Germany, Lenovo unveiled its latest ThinkPad called the ThinkPad X1 Extreme. It’s called “Extreme” for a reason: it’s one of the most powerful ThinkPads to date.
According to Lenovo, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme comes with up to an 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor with vPro on board. In the future, the company will offer an 8th-gen Core i9. You can also configure the machine with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 2TB of storage, and a 15.6-inch Dolby Vision HDR-equipped display with either a Full HD or 4K resolution.
For gamers or workhorses, Lenovo also lets you select discrete Nvidia GeForce 1050 Ti graphics with the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, the first for any ThinkPad in history. You’ll also find Lenovo’s ThinkShutter webcam cover, a backlit keyboard, Windows 10 Pro, Dolby Audio Premium, an 80Whr battery with up to 13 hours of usage, two USB 3.1 ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, an SD card reader, an HDMI port, and a fingerprint reader on board.
All of this is jammed inside an ultra-durable body made out of four layers of carbon fiber. The core structure of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme is built to absorb shocks, while its weight at just 3.76 pounds proves to be 12 percent lighter than the laptop’s cousin, the ThinkPad T580. In a nutshell, this laptop is a real beast.
According to the company, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme will start at $1,859.99 and launch this September.
