Back in February, Qualcomm debuted its new Snapdragon 700 series as a more powerful version of the existing 600 series while remaining a step below the flagship 800 series. Today, the company unveiled the first entry into the lineup: the Snapdragon 710. It’s built on a 10nm process and aims to make a speedy, efficient experience similar to something like the Snapdragon 845 more affordable.
“The Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform is the first in the newly defined and highly significant 700-tier, offering technologies and features previously only available in our premium-tier mobile platforms,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “By incorporating key AI capabilities and performance advancements, the Snapdragon 710 is designed to transform our customers products into the ultimate personal assistant, enhancing critical everyday consumer experiences, such as high-end camera features that will benefit from on-device high-speed AI processing, without sacrificing battery life.”
If you’re already caught up on what the 700 series offers, you essentially know everything necessary about the 710. The chipset sits between the Snapdragon 660 and 845 and will offer improved performance and up to 30 percent better power efficiency for improved battery life. It’ll also bring features from the 800 series down to cheaper devices such as the multi-core Qualcomm AI Engine for better artificial intelligence performance, the Qualcomm Spectra ISP for better camera performance, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0, 4K HDR video playback, and connectivity technologies like ultra-fast LTE and Bluetooth 5. It won’t however, feature gigabit LTE support.
According to Qualcomm, the first devices with the Snapdragon 710 should debut later this year. Therefore, we don’t have much longer to wait until we see how using the company’s new mid-range chips is like.
