Google Releases May Security Patch to Pixel and Nexus Owners

Google today released the May security patch and began rolling it out to both Pixel and Nexus device owners. Those who have a Pixel or Pixel 2, a Nexus 6P or 5X, or a Pixel C tablet can expect the added security in the coming days.

According to Google, there are a total of 23 different fixes between the two security patch levels labeled 2018-05-01 and 2018-05-05. The different patches will roll out to certain devices depending on what security risks they face. As is the case with most security patches, the most critical fixes this month involved the media framework within Android that could allow a remote hacker to execute infected code.

Users of Google-branded devices can expect the update to hit within the next few days. If you’re impatient, you can flash the factory images here and OTA images here.

Users of other OEMs’ devices can expect to receive the patch in the next few weeks.
