Following the announcement of a new Mario Kart game for mobile devices, Nintendo has confirmed it’s working on a new Mario movie with the studio behind the Minions, Illumination. No details were given regarding what the film will be about or when it may be released, but we at least have a tweet that confirms the news.

The last time someone tried to bring the Super Mario Brothers to the big screen was in 1993 with this disaster. Admittedly, that movie was destined to flop what with the costumes, acting, and script, so hopefully Illumination can take Mario and other members of the Mushroom Kingdom and turn them into movie stars much like Gru and the Minions are.
We’ll let you know of any further developments.
