Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S9 on February 25th, and now’s the time we get to see some leaks of the device. Coming to us from Evan Blass of VentureBeat are images of both the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus alongside some specifications that will likely be featured in the finalized handsets.
For starters, both devices seem to sport thicker bezels than last year’s Galaxy S8. This may be due to the S9 and S9 Plus renders presented above being leaks and not official product images, but if they’re accurate, it looks like Samsung needed more room in these handsets to fit more internals than they did with last year’s models. Still, the S9 and S9 Plus seem to pack slim borders and sleek form factors anyhow.
As for specs, this is where things get interesting. The S9 and S9 Plus will sport 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screens respectively, and Snapdragon 845 processors can be found in both alongside Exynos 9810 chips around the world. However, exclusively in the S9, you’ll find 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. I say exclusively because the S9 Plus will include 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. In this case, you’ll need to buy the more expensive offering to get the most power out of this year’s Galaxy S smartphones, a bummer for those who like small screens that pack a punch.
But the differences don’t stop there. On the back, the S9 is said to include a 12MP camera with an adaptable aperture of f/2.4 and f/1.5 for light and dark environments. This will carry over to the S9 Plus, but the Plus will also include a secondary 12MP shooter right below the main shooter likely for portrait mode pictures. Again, you won’t be getting the full 2018 Galaxy S experience by buying the standard S9. So for those who need the best of the best, it looks like the S9 Plus will be the way to go.
Luckily, both cameras should include support for shooting slow-motion videos at 480 frames per second in 720p which is pretty insane, to say the least. The S9 and S9 Plus will also include 8MP selfie cameras.
VentureBeat says the S9 and S9 Plus will launch on March 16th. No pricing information has been given yet, but stay tuned.
