Samsung has confirmed to ZDNet during CES that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S9, will be unveiled at an event during the Mobile World Congress 2018. The company didn’t specify whether both an S9 or S9 Plus will be unveiled, but we’re assuming we’ll see two phones from the company at that time.
By unveiling the Galaxy S9 during MWC, Samsung will be introducing its latest flagship even earlier than last year. If you recall, the company unveiled the Galaxy S8 last year in March and launched it in April. Now, it looks like the company will unveil the S9 in February and launch it in March. MWC runs from February 26 to March 1 so it’s likely we’ll see the handset before the turn of the new month.
As for what the S9 and S9 Plus will feature, we’re expecting to see a very similar design to last year’s S8 and S8 Plus with the same-sized screens and generally the same builds. The S9 will likely place the fingerprint sensor below the camera opposed to last year’s models, but other than this, there likely won’t be anything noticeable. Well, other than the inclusion of the headphone jack.
For specs, we’re expecting to see a Snapdragon 845 and 4GB of RAM with a possible upgrade to 6GB of RAM. We’ll also likely see Samsung Experience on top of Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s AI capabilities on board such as Bixby.
During ZDNet’s interview with the head of mobile at Samsung, DJ Koh, it was noted that the company expects to launch a foldable smartphone this year as well. We have yet to find out what this might look like and how it’ll function, but we’ll let you know of any new information.
We expect to hear a lot more about the S9 over the course of the next few weeks so stay tuned.
