Asus has announced at CES 2018 that it’ll be bringing its new ZenFone Max Plus (M1) to North America. The device will become available this February for $229 in two colors: silver and black. It’ll sit alongside the rest of the ZenFone lineup available in places like the US which includes the ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro, ZenFone 3 Max, and ZenFone Max.
Much like the ZenFone Max, the Max Plus features a huge battery pack. But whereas the standard Max comes with 5000mAh, the Max Plus drops down to 4130mAh. Of course, you really shouldn’t have any problems with either handset and its endurance throughout the day, you’ll nonetheless notice less runtime on the Max Plus than with the Max.
That being said, the rest of the Max Plus looks pretty promising. It sports a near bezel-less 5.7-inch 18:9 display to keep up with the latest trend in the smartphone market alongside dual rear cameras much like what LG does with its handsets. I say this because there’s a main 16MP lens and one 120-degree wide-angle 20MP lens that lets you capture more of a scene in one photo. It’ll come in handy when taking a picture of, say, a group or a landscape.
Finally, the ZenFone Max Plus is the first Asus handset to ship with Face Unlock. It’s probably a cheap implementation that can be tricked with a picture, but what with nearly every OEM nowadays doing face unlocking, it only makes sense to see Asus jump on the bandwagon.
