Last year in the form of a comeback, HMD Global unveiled a smartphone under the Nokia name. Called the Nokia 6, it was the brand’s first entry into the smartphone market since the days of Windows Phone. Now, the company has introduced a second generation of the handset with better specs than last year’s model.
While still remaining a mid-ranger at heart, the second-gen Nokia 6 sports a Snapdragon 630 processor over last year’s 430 with 4GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of storage, and a 3000mAh battery sealed into a slightly thicker body. There’s a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD display up front that sticks with the classic 16:9 aspect ratio, while a 16MP camera sits around back.
To charge, Nokia includes a USB-C connector that’s capable of giving users up to a 50% charge in thirty minutes. The Nokia 6 also has a fingerprint reader like last year’s model, but it’s found on the back this time rather directly underneath the display.
Finally, the new Nokia 6 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board. This is something that hasn’t changed between last year and this year, but Nokia says Android Oreo will come to the handset soon. Let’s hope they stick to their word.
The Nokia 6 will launch first in China for 1499 yen (or about $230). It remains unknown when the handset may land in other markets around the world. We’ll let you know if it hits new shores in the future.
