To kick off CES 2018, Lenovo is making a series of announcements today starting with the new ThinkPad X series. The laptops, known as the ThinkPad X280 and X380 Yoga, offer 2018-grade specifications and new features that should make using the PCs pretty enjoyable.
For starters, the ThinkPad X280 features 8th-generation Intel Core i-series processors up to an i7, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of SSD storage, Intel UHD Graphics 620, Dolby Advance Audio, a 12.5-inch Full HD touch display, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, an HDMI port, and up to 13 hours of battery life with RapidCharge to top off quickly.
That’s all fine and dandy, but it’s in the security department where things get interesting. Lenovo is including a fingerprint sensor on the X280 for quick log-ins, but they also include an infrared camera for Windows Hello that features what the company calls ThinkShutter. Basically, it’s a little flap that slides over the camera so hackers can’t get into your laptop and spy on you. In other words, you won’t need that piece of black tape after all to protect yourself.
As for the X380 Yoga, it’s essentially a beefed-up version of the X280 that also includes a Lenovo Yoga-style hinge that can rotate the display backward 360 degrees for tablet and tent modes. It includes mainly the same specs as the X280 but also packs Dolby Premium Audio, up to 13.6 hours of power with RapidCharge, a 13.3-inch Full HD touchscreen, and a wider array of ports such as two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, and a Thunderbolt 3 port. ThinkShutter and a fingerprint reader are also present for security measures.
The new ThinkPad X280 and X380 Yoga go on sale this month starting at $999 and $1459, respectively.
