Samsung’s New Galaxy A8 and A8+ Pack Infinity Displays and Dual Front Cameras

Samsung has announced its 2018 versions of the Galaxy A8 and A8+ smartphones, and unsurprisingly, they resemble the more expensive Galaxy S8 and S8+ in more ways than one.

For starters, they have Infinity Displays measuring in at 5.6- and 6.0-inches, respectively, and have Full HD+ (2220×1080) resolutions. They each use AMOLED panels and include the company’s 18.5:9 aspect ratio surrounded by minimal bezels. These phones look pretty good at least in these renderings, so expect them to have the same effect in the hand.

Inside their shiny IP68 certified bodies, Samsung includes an octa-core Hexa processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of storage (the A8+ can be configured with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage standard). We’re also seeing 3,000 and 3,500mAh batteries in the devices alongside Bluetooth 5, USB-C connectors, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

As for cameras, Samsung includes a single 16MP shooter on the rear of each device and dual sensors on the front to take portrait selfies. The cameras feature 16MP and 8MP respectively and include the Galaxy Note 8’s Live Focus mode to adjust how much background blur you’d like. How well this feature works has yet to be determined, but if it’s anything like the Note 8, expect a decent experience.

Also, that fingerprint sensor is in the correct place, right below the camera sensor. Well done, Samsung. You’ve fixed yet another mistake you made.

Samsung says the A8 and A8+ for 2018 will go on sale in early January. Pricing has yet to be announced.
