A new report from KGI Securities (via 9to5Mac) has surfaced which claims to shed light on the situation surrounding next year’s iPhones. Specifically, the successors to this year’s iPhone X could have notably bigger batteries.
In the report, KGI notes the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED iPhones will reportedly come with L-shaped cells much like the X does and increase in capacity to somewhere between 2900mAh and 3000mAh. Considering the X has a 2716mAh cell, this would mean roughly a 10% increase in capacity come 2018. Of course, this doesn’t sound like much, but it could mean an extra hour or two of juice before you need to go looking for a charger.
Additionally, next year’s cheaper 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will reportedly keep a rectangular-shaped battery cell but could also see an increase in capacity. In Apple’s world, the reason behind this move would be to save money. This is the same reason the company’s rumored to revert to a metal backing for the device.
Whether any of this is true is up in the air since we’re so far away from seeing next year’s iPhones. Nonetheless, at least things are looking good so far for the battery life of next year’s models.
