Oreo Update for Android Wear Now Rolling Out

Back in October, Google released the first and only developer preview of the official Android 8.0 Oreo update for its Android Wear platform. There wasn’t a whole lot new besides some background processes to make speed and efficiency better, more control over your notifications, and some additional system-level options, but it nice to see Oreo being readied for Google’s somewhat forgotten smartwatch OS. Now, that very update is rolling out to all Android Wear users who own an LG Watch Sport.

According to a Google developer over on Google+ (via Android Police), the update is hitting devices starting today, although it really depends on who made your watch. Companies such as Huawei, Moto, Asus, and ZTE will need to roll the update out to their respective watches which could take a minute. So unless you own LG’s $349 flagship Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch, you’re likely out of luck for a while.

To see if you’ve received the Oreo update on your wrist, head to Settings > System > About > System updates on your watch. So far, we’ve heard about one person receiving the update on their LG Watch Sport so more people will likely soon follow.
