Apple’s peer-to-peer payment system built into iMessage called Apple Pay Cash is now available for testing. Specifically, Apple flicked the switch for those who are registered with Apple Pay and running iOS 11.2 and watchOS 4.2 on their devices. Currently, it only looks like the second beta of each upcoming OS update carries the feature, but it should roll out to everyone when the upgrades are made available to the public.
To use the feature, you and the person you’re chatting with will need to both be running either iOS 11.2 or watchOS 4.2 and be registered to Apple Pay. Afterward, you can open the Messages app and select the Apple Pay Cash option at the bottom of the screen within a chat thread. You can send up to $3,000 via this method of payment so while you can’t probably pay your rent with it, you have enough breathing room to pitch into that night out on the town.
Right now, only those in the United States can use the feature, but it’s expected Apple Pay Cash will roll out to more users in the near future.
