Google recently stated they would continuously provide software updates for the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL all the way into 2020. However, things remained unclear as to when exactly the company would end support for the devices. Now, we’re getting word that the actual timeframe for when the devices will be cut off is October of 2020, and if you look at Google’s software update history, it seems safe to make some assumptions.
For one, Android P will surely hit the devices next year. For 2019, the Pixel 2 should also get Android Q when it lands. And if Google sticks to its current August release timeframe for Android upgrades, the phones should even receive an upgrade to Android R in 2020 since they won’t get cut off until two months afterward.

Whether any of this is true or not depends on how well Google’s track record stays intact. If the company sticks to its timeframe where we see new software in August and new hardware in October, Android R will probably be released for the PIxel 2 and 2 XL. If the company changes something, none of what’s stated here could be true. Either way, at least for now, it looks like we’ll be seeing Android R(ice Pudding) on the Pixel 2 in a few short years.
For reference, the original Pixel will be receiving an upgrade to Android P next year and will then stop receiving software upgrades.
