Report: Samsung to Unveil Bixby 2.0 at Developer Conference Next Week

A new report out of The Korea Herald (via Android Authority) hints that Samsung could unveil an updated version of its Bixby artificial intelligence assistant next week during a developer conference in San Francisco. According to the report, the updated version, known as Bixby 2.0, could integrate with third-party services and further expand its reach across Samsung’s various products such as smart home appliances and accessories. The report doesn’t go into detail about where Bixby will see improvements or which specific devices it could land on, so we’ll have to wait for Samsung’s full announcement.

Up until now, Bixby has been everything less than great. It first launched on Samsung’s Galaxy S8 by stumbling out of the gate, and things weren’t so good. During our testing, the service was slow and not all of our questions could be answered. That being said, it was a bit useful to be able to visit a specific app’s settings panel by just using your voice, but for what it’s worth, that didn’t prove entirely worth it. Therefore, Bixby is in dire need of some improvements, so let’s hope Samsung can come back strong and deliver something worthy of competing with Siri and the Google Assistant.

Samsung’s developer conference will take place on October 18. Stay tuned for more.
