Apple today seeded developers with the second beta build of iOS 11.1 for testing before an initial release to the public in the near future. This comes nearly two weeks after the first beta surfaced for the same party. Those on the public beta of iOS 11 can expect this build in the next day or so.
To install the new build on your registered device, head over to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap “Download and install” next to the iOS 11.1 beta listing and you’ll be good to go. I recommend jumping on a Wi-Fi network first alongside plugging in your device beforehand as a) you don’t want data overcharges on your bill and b) you don’t want your phone or tablet to die during the installation process.
New in the second build of iOS 11.1 is a fresh set of emoji consisting of over 100 new icons. Apple announced this feature last week. You can browse the entire new collection here.
As for other new features, the long-awaited return of the 3D Touch multitasking gesture has occurred in this latest beta. By pressing hard on the left side of your iPhone’s screen, you can switch between apps with ease and access the multitasking interface. We’ll let you know if any additional changes are spotted.
iOS 11 packs a revamped Control Center, redesigned notifications, improvements to Siri including an all-new voice, Do Not Disturb While Driving, and an all-new interface for the iPad with better productivity features, a macOS-style Dock, and a new multitasking view. There’s even an official Files app for all iOS devices that lets you access files stored on your device without having to hunt down a third-party service to do so.
