Yesterday, Google unveiled its new Pixel 2 and 2 XL. During the unveiling event, the company mentioned the new Pixels were fast charging compliant and could receive a 7-hours-of-use charge after just fifteen minutes of being plugged in. That’s pretty fast charging, if you ask me. But as it turns out, the devices are capable of much more.
According to Benson Leung, an engineer at Google, the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL can be charged using a 27W charger. In the box of the Pixel 2, you get an 18W charger. Therefore, after being plugged into a wall with a 27W charger for fifteen minutes, you’ll probably get a lot more use out of your new Pixel before it dies. Leung didn’t give an estimated charging time from 0 to 100% by using the faster-charging brick, but at least we know it’s possible to top off your new Phone by Google even quicker.
Update: Unfortunately, it looks like this information was false as after publishing the Google+ post, Leung updated it to clarify you can only charge the new Pixels with up to an 18W adapter. While this is unfortunate, at least you’ll be getting the fastest speeds possible for charging straight out of the box.
