When Apple debuted the iPhone 7 back in 2016, they decided to ditch the headphone jack. Luckily, in the box of every iPhone 7 or 8, you get a little dongle that lets you connect your standard 3.5mm headphones into the Lightning port. And if you lose this dongle, it would cost you $9 to replace it. Not bad, right? Well, it’s a different story with the newly announced Google Pixel 2.
Google said on stage users would be able to connect their standard headphones to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL using a supplied dongle in the box. For reference, that dongle is a USB-C male to 3.5mm female adapter. And since it’s small, you’ll probably lose it. And if you do, you’ll need to get it replaced. Unfortunately, it’s gonna cost you $20.
Yup, you read that right. Google’s headphone dongle is gonna cost you $20 if you lose the one in the box. Whereas Apple will spare you and only charge you $9, Google wants all your money in this case and will give you a new dongle for two Hamiltons. Why you may ask? I literally have no idea because I can’t imagine there’s a ton of logic in it that would drive up the cost.
Just remember if you’re picking up a Pixel 2, you won’t wanna lose the dongle that comes in the box.
