Apple Releases iOS 11.0.2 with Crackling Earpiece Fix for iPhone 8

Apple today began rolling out the second update to iOS 11 since the OS’ release, iOS 11.0.2. The update is rolling out now to all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users. To install the update, head over to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap “Download and install” next to the iOS 11.0.2 listing and you’ll be good to go. I recommend jumping on a Wi-Fi network first alongside plugging in your device beforehand as a) you don’t want data overcharges on your bill and b) you don’t want your phone or tablet to die during the installation process.

As for what’s new, most users likely won’t notice anything different in this update. However, for those with an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, your earpiece shouldn’t crackle anymore. Previously, users reported hearing a crackling sound within their earpiece while on calls with the new iPhone 8 and Apple said they would issue a software fix in the future. Now, that software fix is here.

If you have yet to upgrade to iOS 11, you’re missing a ton. iOS 11 packs a revamped Control Center, redesigned notifications, improvements to Siri including an all-new voice, Do Not Disturb While Driving, and an all-new interface for the iPad with better productivity features, a macOS-style Dock, and a new multitasking view. There’s even an official Files app for all iOS devices that lets you access files stored on your device without having to hunt down a third-party service to do so.
