Google is expected to debut its new round of hardware for the 2017 holiday season this Wednesday, and now we’re hearing more about the company’s plans in terms of phones. We already saw the device leak earlier in a set of tweets, and now Evan Blass of VentureBeat is detailing the Pixel 2 XL a bit more with fresh renders of it and its smaller brother, the Pixel 2, and some release information.
Specifically, the 5-inch 1080p Pixel 2 is said to launch on October 19th which is right around the corner. However, the Pixel 2 XL, the phone everyone will want and will overshadow the smaller option, won’t land until November 15th. Clearly, the 2 XL is being delayed here, but there is no given reason as to why. It could be due to the new design requiring more time to manufacture since a bezel-less 18:9 display is all new to Google, but this is just a guess at this point. We’ll likely hear more about this later this week.
As for some final tidbits, Blass claims the Pixel 2 and 2 XL will both sport Snapdragon 835 processors despite previously stating they would pack Snapdragon 836 chips which, according to Blass, has been delayed. 4GB of RAM will arrive in each handset, and so will either 64 or 128GB of storage. The smaller Pixel 2 will have a 5-inch 16:9 1080p display while the 2 XL steps things up to a 6-inch 18:9 bezel-less QHD+ screen. The 2 will start at $649 and go up to $749 whereas the 2 XL will start at $849 and go up to a whopping $949. So much for a cheap flagship phone, amirite?
Stay tuned as we’ll have more coverage surrounding everything Google announces this week here on the site and on our Twitter profile.
