Apple today launched the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. This comes a little over a month before the much-anticipated $1,000 iPhone X launches with a bezel-less display, Face ID, and new software. Until then, we have what’s essentially the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus.
Specifically, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are very similar to the 7 and 7 Plus in which they both have 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens with the same resolutions, the same overall dimensions but with glass on the back, slightly better cameras, smaller batteries, wireless charging, and the new A11 Bionic hexa-core processor. There’s not really that much new, but at least they’re all relatively positive changes.
Unfortunately, one change consumers might not like is the new pricing. Apple is charging $50 more for the 8 and 8 Plus than what they charged for the 7 and 7 Plus last year. So if you want an iPhone 8 with 64GB of storage, you’ll be spending $699 rather $649. An 8 with 256GB of storage will run you $849. For the 8 Plus, you’ll spend $799 for 64GB of room, while for 256GB, you’ll owe a hefty $949. Of course, all of these price points can be broken up over a number of months through your carrier or Apple themselves, but you’ll still have to add at least an extra $34.50 to your monthly bill.
