Motorola’s Moto X4 mid-range smartphone is launching on Project Fi. This comes a few weeks after the device debuted during IFA 2017. Not only this, but the device will ship with Android One onboard, marking the first device to do so in the United States.
If you’re unfamiliar, Android One is a lighter, cleaner, more secure version of Android that ships on a variety of devices in emerging markets such as India. Here in the States, we’ve had full-fledged Android to work with, but some have remained curious as to whether Android One offered a better experience. Now, it looks like we can wonder no more as the Android One Moto X4 will soon launch.
In terms of specs, it’s the same story here as it is with the standard X4: there’s a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 630, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a glass and metal body, fingerprint sensor, dual rear cameras, IP68 certification, and USB-C. For software, it comes with Android One based on 7.1.2 Nougat with an upgrade to Android Oreo after the launch takes place. In fact, the device will even get Android P when it’s released next year.
With only slight tweaks made to the OS such as a custom camera and a few display changes, you’re really getting a stock build of Android One in this case. This means software updates will arrive quickly and your experience using the device should be pretty snappy. Battery life and overall security should also be on the higher end of the spectrum. Additionally, the Google Assistant is also onboard which is notable since this version of the X4 doesn’t come with Amazon’s Alexa.
To encourage current Project Fi users to upgrade to this device, Google is offering up to $165 if you trade in a previous Nexus device on the network, with an added $50 on top of that if you do so before October 5th. In terms of pricing, the Android One X4 will cost $399. It’s available in Super Black and Sterling Blue. Pre-orders begin today.
