Samsung’s near-$1000 Galaxy Note 8 has officially launched. After debuting last month during an event, the 6.3-inch, Snapdragon 835-powered, dual camera-packed, S Pen-equipped handset is now available for purchase starting at $929. This gets you the phone in either black or Orchid Gray with 64GB of storage and carrier unlocked from Samsung’s website. All four major US carriers are also offering the smartphone in the same configurations, but with different price tiers.
For starters, T-Mobile is the cheapest at $930. AT&T follows up by charging $950 for the handset. Finally, Verizon and Sprint each offer the phone for $960 which is just $40 shy of that magical $1000 mark we’re seeing with the recently introduced iPhone X. Of course, each carrier has its own way for customers to pay for the phone, but in the end, any way you spin it, the Galaxy Note 8 is one pricey handset. Whether the device is worth it to you will really depend on whether you want an S Pen or not since the Galaxy S8 Plus is essentially the Note 8 minus the S Pen, an extra 0.1 inches from the screen, and a rear telephoto camera. If none of these features matter to you, you’ll probably be better off with just the S8 Plus which is currently on sale at Amazon unlocked for a pretty nice discount.
That being said, the Galaxy Note 8 still seems like a pretty great smartphone. It packs a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED Infinity Display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, dual rear cameras, Android 7.1.1 Nougat, an S Pen, a 3300mAh battery, a headphone jack(!), a USB-C port, and AKG earphones in its box. Considering the handset is also available for sale at Amazon and Best Buy amongst other retailers, expect its price to decrease in the near future as newer phones hit the market and Samsung aims to sell some more devices.
We expect to get our hands on the handset soon so stay tuned for a full review on Matridox.
