Exactly a year after the original Pixel’s unveiling, Google is scheduling its Pixel 2 and XL 2 event for October 4th, 2017. The company announced the date on a landing page and the below video which suggests users “ask more” from your phone.
Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 is expected to come with all the standard flagship 2017 specs: a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, and Android Oreo with the company’s tweaks. The smaller Pixel 2 will come with a 5-inch 1080p display, while the Pixel XL 2 (or whatever Google calls it) will arrive with a 6-inch bezel-less QHD+ display. Each device will use OLED panels, while the former will be manufactured by HTC and the latter manufactured by LG. Both devices will have new squeezable sides similar to what the HTC U11 has in which it can allow users to activate the Google Assistant by simply squeezing its sides. It remains unclear how customizable this feature will be, but if it’s anything like HTC’s Edge Sense, it could even work in a bunch of apps.
Additionally, the new Pixels will likely have improved cameras as well. We’re not expecting any dual sensor setups this year, but improvements on top of last year’s 12MP shooters are likely in place. As for other devices, Google could unveil a pair of Assistant-powered headphones and a smaller Google Home to take on the Amazon Echo Dot. There could also be a Chromebook of some sorts. Of course, we’re still pretty far off from the event actually occurring, so we’ll have to wait and see what evolves from this speculation over time.
Update: Google is now sending press invites out for their October 4th event, and it looks like it’ll be taking place in San Francisco at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET.
