Apple’s iPhone X was unveiled yesterday and was detailed during the company’s big event. But one thing not mentioned on stage was what the device is capable of in terms of charging. As discovered on Apple’s website, the iPhone X is capable of fast charging so you don’t have to wait around all day to top up, but unfortunately, it’s gonna cost you.
According to Apple, you can use basically any of the available charging bricks used for the company’s MacBook lineup. This includes the 29W, 61W, and 87W USB-C adapters. In order to use the adapters, you’ll need to pick up a USB-C to Lightning cord which Apple also sells. Unfortunately, the adapters alone cost $49, $69, and $79 respectively, while the cheapest USB-C/Lightning cord you can buy is $25. This means you’ll need to pay a minimum of $74 for fast charging with your $1,000 phone.
To some, this could be totally outrageous. But for others, it may be worth it. Apple normally includes a wimpy 5W adapter in the box of all their iPhones which doesn’t allow any of their handsets to charge in an efficient time. With the fast charging capabilities onboard the iPhone X, you can juice yourself up to 50% in as little as 30 minutes. Therefore, some may be willing to spend the extra $74 since that feature would likely be appreciated by many. For others, however, paying such a price just for faster charging speeds could just convince them what they get out of the box is good enough. Personally, I’d probably just buy a $19 iPad charger and call it a day.
