BlackBerry’s KeyOne is Getting Android Oreo

BlackBerry has confirmed (via Crackberry) that their KeyOne handset from earlier this year will receive a software upgrade from Android Nougat to Oreo in the near future. The device has been well-received by reviewers for having enough speed to multitask, a great camera, and excellent battery life. Therefore, it makes sense to see new software headed to the handset rather staying on Nougat permanently.

Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for its predecessor, 2015’s BlackBerry Priv. According to BlackBerry’s GM of Mobility Solutions, Alex Thurber, the device won’t receive any further software upgrades and will stay on Android Marshmallow forever. The company will continue to push security patches to it, but that’s it. I guess you could say the handset isn’t that privileged?

As of now, we’re not sure whether the DTEK50 or 60 will get further updates from BlackBerry to, say, Nougat or Oreo, but stay tuned.
