I just wrote about (and ranted a bit on) Sony’s new Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact flagship smartphones for 2017. They’re fine, except they have chunky bezels and they come loaded with gimmicks. That’s not really what sells in 2017, and the company’s new mid-ranger is no exception to this either.
Called the Xperia XA1 Plus, this phone with a 5.5-inch Full HD display comes with some of the chunkiest bezels you’ll probably ever find on a smartphone. I don’t have exact measurements to share, but just look at them. They’re huge.
Yeah, I know it’s a mid-range smarpthone, but really, it’s 2017. Everything is ditching its bezels at this point, even sub-$400 phones.
But at least the device’s specs are decent. Here’s a rundown.
- 5.5-inch Full HD display
- Helio P20 octa-core processor
- 23MP rear camera
- 8MP front camera
- 4GB RAM
- 32GB storage (expandable via microSD card)
- 3430mAh battery
- Fingerprint sensor (probably not in the US, however)
The XA1 also ships with Android Nougat. I didn’t include this in the spec rundown because it’s worth bringing more attention to. The flagship XZ1 smartphones come with Android Oreo. Why does this device ship with last year’s operating system when Sony had access to the latest and greatest from Google? Heh, beats me! Let’s just hope a speedy software update brings it up to par with its more powerful siblings.
Sony says the Xperia XA1 Plus will be available this October for $379.99.
Why xa1 ultra bezeless(mid-range) while xz1/xz1c(top) not? It’s stupid
