Before IFA 2017 has even started, companies are making a bunch of announcements. Acer is amongst the crowd as it’s already unveiled the “world’s first” 2-in-1 with discrete graphics, and now the company is showing off its latest Chromebook which upgrades last year’s Chromebook 15 with a new aluminum body. Consumers now also have the choice between a dual-core Intel Celeron processor or a quad-core Pentium chipset with 32 or 64GB of storage. And since the Chromebook will be compatible with Android apps later this year, you’ll also have the option of choosing a 15.6-inch Full HD touchscreen or non-touch display. 4 or 8GB of RAM is also available.
Additionally, the device’s battery is up from 9 hours to 12 hours for this year’s model. Of course, real-world tests will determine if this is true so stay tuned.
Not only are the specs better, but the overall build is as well. It’s made of aluminum as previously stated, but it’s also thinner and lighter as well. Specifically, the device is down to 0.74 inches think over 0.95 inches last year and weighs 3.79 pounds over 4.85 pounds over its predecessor. Acer says the new Chromebook 15 will cost $399 when it goes on sale this October which is $100 more than last year’s model. But hey, with better specs and an aluminum build over plastic, I guess a price hike was a no brainer for the company.
