Confirmed: Samsung’s Smart Speaker Will Launch ‘Soon’

Back in July, Samsung was reported as working on a new smart home speaker that would compete against the Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod. It would be powered by Bixby which, if you’ve lived under a rock for the past six months and somehow missed anyone saying this, is pretty bad right now. Therefore, the company was said to have shelved the device for future development. Now, as per a CNBC interview with Samsung Mobile’s president, DJ Koh, we know the speaker is official and is coming soon.

According to Koh, Samsung is currently working on the speaker and “maybe soon [they’ll] announce it.” “As I mentioned I wanted to provide a fruitful user experience at home with Samsung devices, and I want to be moving quite heavily on it,” Koh said. While we don’t get any additional information on the speaker, at least we know it’s coming at some point.

We don’t have a timeline to share at this point or confirmation as to whether the speaker will be powered by Bixby, but we can say the latter is pretty safe to assume to rule out as true. Of course, we expect to have more information in the near future if the speaker launches “soon” like Koh says so stay tuned.
