A new report out of Android Police claims Google will introduce more than just the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 at their event this October. In the report, the publication notes Google will introduce a Pixel-branded Chromebook similar to what the 2015 Chromebook Pixel offered but in a smaller form factor. The company is also expected to introduce what’s essentially a mini Google Home that would directly compete with the Amazon Echo Dot.
Touching a bit more on the former, AP says they don’t really know much more at this time other than the fact the Chromebook with Pixel branding exists. They think it could be the rumored Project Bison device which was speculated last year to be powered by Google’s new Andromeda operating system built on top of Android and feature a 12.3-inch screen, 32/128GB of storage, 8/16GB of RAM, and a sold-separately Wacom pen. Considering we haven’t seen many developments in terms of Andromeda in recent times, it’s likely safe to say this laptop at least won’t be powered by the OS.
AP also notes it could be the rumored ‘Eve’ Chromebook that’s been popping up in Chrome OS’ code. This device is said to feature a fingerprint sensor and the Google Assistant. To me at least, I think Eve sounds more like a Chromebook we can expect to see in the near future, or at least in a future where it’s unveiled alongside the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.
As for the latter device, today’s report is extremely scarce in this regard. There’s no potential pricing information or release data, and we have no idea what it might look like or how it’ll function exactly. Presumably, you’ll be able to buy the device in bulk like you would an Echo Dot and be able to connect it to your own speakers to stream music, listen to news briefings, and ask the Google Assistant questions. Of course, if we learn anything more regarding either the new Home or Chromebook, we’ll let you know.
