Google May Have Accidentally Leaked Android O’s Name

Google just announced they will be unveiling Android O’s name on Monday, August 21st. Many are expecting to also hear the OS update’s name, and that name has been favored to be Oreo. I’m in that boat, and now that boat has a glimmer of hope indicating they could be right.

Over on Google+, the company’s Android profile sent out a 3-second teaser clip announcing the countdown had begun before Android O debuted. What’s interesting is a tipster to Android Police noticed the title of the video file that was uploaded was “GoogleOreo_Teaser_0817_noDroids (1).mp4.” If you notice, the second word in that title is Oreo, further giving us indication that Android 8.0 will be known as Android Oreo. Of course, this doesn’t confirm the name of the next major Android release, but it does at least give us a tease as to what could be coming.

What’s interesting is Google removed this video from Google+ and replaced it with a video called “OctopusTeaser.mp4.” An octopus is the same easter egg found in the latest Android O developer preview, so this new name is clearly a simple troll. But the fact that it used to be called Oreo just makes us believe America’s favorite cookie will get its own operating system in a matter of a few days.
