Asus Announces ZenFone 4 Lineup w/ Six New Devices

During an event today in Japan, Asus announced its ZenFone 4 lineup for 2017 that consists of six different devices. They are the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 Selfie, ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro, ZenFone 4 Max, and the ZenFone 4 Max Pro. Instead of wasting time, let’s get down to business.

For starters, the ZenFone 4 and 4 Pro are the flagships of the lineup, with the latter having the higher-end specifications. Regarding the former, we’re looking at a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 630 processor, 4 or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, NFC, a 3300mAh battery, and Android Nougat. The latter upgrades things to a Snapdragon 835, 6GB of RAM, a 3600mAh battery, and up to 128GB of storage.

In terms of cameras, this is where Asus is paying the most attention. On the back of the ZenFone 4 sit dual rear shooters, with one sensor having 12MP and the other 8MP. The former can take your average photo, while the latter can shoot 120-degree pictures similar to what LG is doing with the G6 and V20. The ZenFone 4 Pro upgrades these shooters to 16MP and 12MP, respectively. We’ve never really seen this type of implementation from many other OEMs, so it’s interesting to see Asus give it a shot.

For reference, both handsets come with 8MP selfie cameras.

Speaking of selfies, Asus is also launching the ZenFone 4 Selfie and the 4 Selfie Pro. The former comes with a Snapdragon 430, 4GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera, 64GB of storage, and Android Nougat. The latter simply has one notable internal bump: a Snapdragon 625. These phones have Selfie branding because they focus on providing the best experience while taking shots like this. For instance, the ZenFone 4 Selfie has a 20MP main shooter and an 8MP wide-angle lens for groupies, while the 4 Selfie Pro comes with a 12MP/12MP duo with the same respective capabilities. I’m not sure how many people will buy either of these phones just for the selfie capabilities, but hey, no judgment.

Finally, the ZenFone 4 Max and 4 Max Pro are also here. The devices sport 5.5-inch 720p displays, 2 or 3GB of RAM, Snapdragon 425 or 430 processors, and 32GB of RAM. It’s in the battery department things get interesting, as both handsets come with massive 5,000mAh cells. This should get through at least two full days on a single charge, or at least they will in theory. Of course, we won’t know for sure if we test them out, so hopefully, we get some hands-on time in the future.

As for cameras, there are dual shooters on each handset. The former comes with a 13MP/5MP combo, while the latter has a 16MP/8MP duo. The latter also has a better 16MP selfie cam, while the former sticks with an 8MP shooter. Overall, these phones should provide a pretty decent budget experience.

As for pricing, things stand as follows:

  • ZenFone 4: $399
  • ZenFone 4 Pro: $599
  • ZenFone 4 Selfie: $279
  • ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro: $379
  • ZenFone 4 Max: $235

We currently don’t know how much the ZenFone 4 Max Pro will cost, but stay tuned.

We also don’t know when the devices will launch, while regoinal availably is also a msytery. We expect to gain some additional insight in the near future.
