Here’s a problem not many people have probably ever heard of or experienced: users of HTC’s phones, most notably the squeezable U11 and last year’s 10, are having advertisements pop up on their keyboards. HTC uses TouchPal, available on the Play Store, as their default keyboard. But for whatever reason, a new update is spamming the entire experience with meaningless ads no one asked for.
It’s worth noting that the free version of TouchPal does utilize ads so the developers can earn some cash, but HTC had originally worked things out so this wouldn’t happen on their own devices. This means that it’s probably not HTC’s fault you’re seeing these advertisements on your keyboard – it’s TouchPal’s.
Eiter way, HTC issued this statement to Engadget specifying that they’re aware of the issue and are currently hunting down a fix.
“Due to an error, some HTC customers have reported seeing ads on their phone’s keyboard. This is absolutely not the experience we intended, and we’re working to immediately fix the error and remove the ads as quickly as possible.”
