As has been the case for quite some time, Psy’s Gangnam Style has held the title for the most-viewed video uploaded to YouTube. This changes today because, as originally noted by BBC News, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s 2015 collaboration has taken the reigns in this regard.
The single, known as See You Again, was released for the film Furious 7 as a dedication to Paul Walker who tragically died in a car crash before he could complete shooting the movie. Wiz Khalifa was brought in to cover the raps, while Puth provided the chorus and hook. The music video for the song was uploaded to YouTube and has since accumulated more than 2.89 billion views, therefore making it the most-watched video of all time on the platform.
Interestingly, extremely popular songs like this one have to thank Psy to an extent. When Gangnam Style debuted in 2014, it received so many hits that Google had to rewrite the code behind YouTube to allow more views than 2,147,483,647 on a single video. If it weren’t for this video, the company probably would’ve had to do the same thing for Khalifa. Well, for him or Mark Ronson, anyway.
Another fun fact in today’s news is how long See You Again has been watched. If you add the numbers up, you’ll notice the video’s been watched for 21,759 years. That’s a dang long time, people.
Additionally, Puth wrote on Twitter how surprised he was to find See You Again as the most-watched video on YouTube.
For the record, I joined @YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views. Just heard about See You Again…wow.

Now I guess we just wait for Bruno Mars to release a new song.
