One of Lyft’s biggest advantages over Uber was the ability to natively tip your driver at the end of your trip. Now, the latter is taking a jab at the magenta mustache by introducing the same feature within their app as a free update for iOS and Android users.
At the end of each trip, Uber will ask you whether you’d like to tip your driver. You can give him/her any amount you wish, or none at all since it’s not required. Uber won’t take a service fee out on your tip, while your tips will be associated with your trips and not your name to safeguard your privacy.
Alongside this change, Uber will now charge you a late fee if your Uber driver is waiting at your location for more than two minutes. Before, this fee would be charged after five, therefore giving users a smaller window to greet their driver.
Right now, tipping is available in the following U.S. and Canadian cities (via The Verge), with the rest being included by the end of this month.
