Samsung’s Bixby is still missing a core feature in the US: voice control. The company introduced the function during their Galaxy S8 event, but we still have yet to see it in action here in the States. This is all about to change, however, as Samsung has introduced an early access program for interested S8 and S8+ owners to receive an early look at Bixby Voice.
While we don’t exactly know when the feature will be introduced formally (Samsung says it’ll land in the “near future”), but we do know that it’s for sure on its way. Interested testers can sign up via this forum on Samsung’s website with their Samsung account email address. Once that’s completed, Samsung will send you a confirmation link so you can begin beta testing Bixby and its new voice capabilities.
Mind you, not everyone will be let in. For now, it looks like only Bixby Voice will be beta tested while Samsung says a select list of participants will receive the preview version of the feature. Regardless, you can still try your luck and see what happens.
Samsung touts Bixby Voice can perform any function that would normally require a touch on your screen. It can also answer questions, set reminders, and more. Of course, it already can identify objects and provide a feed similar to that of Google Now. We detailed what Bixby can and can’t do in our Galaxy S8 review which you can read here.
We’ve signed up for the program on our Galaxy S8 here in the office and will report back if we’re let into the beta testing.
