Microsoft has quietly unveiled a new keyboard known as the Modern Keyboard. It’s the successor to the Surface Keyboard which features the same design and key travel. The only difference between the two is one major addition: a fingerprint sensor.
As you can see in the video above, Microsoft has included a fingerprint sensor integrated into the right-most Windows key for interactions with Windows Hello. It can be used to pay for things on the web, unlock your PC, and even log into websites. The company touts the sensor is “hidden” since it’s not very visible, and I have to admit, I didn’t see it the first time I saw a picture of this keyboard.
In addition, the Modern Keyboard can be used either wirelessly or wired, depending on which you prefer. It’s compatible with Windows, macOS, and the most recent versions of Android.
Microsoft’s store says the Modern Keyboard will retail for $129.99 which, admittedly, is pretty high for a keyboard. But it may be worth it in the end if you really like fingerprint sensors. And really, who doesn’t?
It’s not yet available, but we’ll let you know when it is.
