How-To: Get the Google Now Pane on the Pixel Launcher Without Rooting

We’ve written plenty about the Pixel Launcher before, but this new piece regarding the home screen featured on the Google Pixel happens to be pretty big for anyone who digs the stock Android interface. It’s all thanks to the hard work developer AmirZ has done to deliver an excellent Pixel Launcher experience on any device.

Specifically, by installing a modified version of the Pixel Launcher on your device, you’ll be able to access the Google Now pane. No, you don’t need to root your device or modify it in any way, shape, or form. Just sideload a certain APK and you’ll be good to go.

As for details on the APK itself, AmirZ built the modified Pixel Launcher on top of Launcher3, the default launcher for any build of Android. He used the same package name for the Pixel Launcher to make features like the search pill, weather widget, and Google Now pane work. Essentially, what you’re getting here is a full-fledged Pixel experience on any device. We can verify as we’ve successfully sideloaded the APK on a Samsung Galaxy S8 where we were able to access the Google Now pane and weather widget in addition to the search pill.
