Amazon is making Prime even more affordable for certain folks. The company has granted eligible US citizens who are receiving government assistance a discount on a Prime membership paid monthly. Usually, you’d have to pay $10.99/month for the service that grants you free two-day shipping on every order and other media-related benefits, but with this discount, you’ll have to pay just $5.99/month.
Of course, you’ll need to be specifically eligible for this discount. You’ll need to have an Electronic Benefits Transfer card that allows for granted funds through programs like the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps), and Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC). If you have one, you’ll simply need to enter your information over on Amazon’s website and you should receive the discount.Note that there is no discount for yearly subscriptions. These still cost $99 annually.

Those who qualify for this discount can apply for it each year up to four times. Amazon says they will add other ways to qualify in the future for customers participating in government assistance programs that do not utilize EBT. You can learn more via Amazon’s press release.
