Back in April before the Galaxy S8 launched, Samsung formally came out saying Bixby Voice, the voice control part of Samsung’s new Bixby AI assistant, wouldn’t launch in the US until “later this spring.” Now, according to The Wall Street Journal, it looks like we’re gonna have to wait even longer to control our S8s and S8+s with our voices natively.
In the report, WSJ cites people familiar with the matter when saying Bixby Voice won’t be ready until at least late June. This is due to the assistant being not able to identify English very well at this point in time. It’s unclear if this is true or not, but if it is, we may have to wait until summer for the feature to launch, a timeframe way past the company’s original estimation.
Mind you, Bixby Voice was supposed to be a major point of interest to draw potential customers to buy the Galaxy S8. But since it hasn’t yet launched, only time will tell if Samsung will actually be able to capitalize on it like they originally hoped. Right now, their main focus is the Infinity Display which is, in fairness, unique to the S8, but a screen might not be enough to carry the handset’s popularity into the future.
