LG today unveiled the X Venture smartphone, a low-cost option for those of you on a budget and need a rugged phone that can fit your lifestyle. It’s exclusively available through AT&T but will go on sale internationally unlocked.
LG says the X Venture passed as many as 14 different MIL-STD 810G tests designed for the U.S. military, so this smartphone is probably pretty durable. It features a rubberized textured backplate for increased grippability and is designed to work with either bare hands or gloves thanks to a dedicated glove mode and capacitive buttons.
There’s also a button along the side of the phone which is customizable to launch any app you wish. By default, it opens LG’s Outdoor Essentials app which brings up outdoor-oriented tools and utilities including a barometer, compass, activity counter (steps/calories/distance), exercise tracker, weather reporter, and flashlight.
As for specs, the X Venture features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 435 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera and 5MP wide-angle front camera, 32GB of expandable storage, Android Nougat, a fingerprint scanner, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, NFC for Android Pay payments, and a huge 4100mAh battery that LG says will last up to 24 hours between charges. The phone also supports Quick Charge 2.0 that the company says enables charging “from empty to 50 percent in only 48 minutes.”
AT&T will sell the X Venture for $11/month on a two-year contract which adds up to be about $260, a price that, quite frankly, isn’t bad for such a durable little smartphone. It’ll go on sale May 26th.
