The Kotlin programming language is pretty popular amongst developers. It helps them get more work done, makes developing apps easier and simpler, and helps to create multiple apps at once with the same code. Now, Google has officially added support fo the language thanks to a partnership with the developers behind Kotlin, Jet Brains.
On stage during I/O 2017, Google literally said “We have one more thing” and then announced the addition of Kotlin. The crowd went wild, and for good reason. The language will be added to Android Studio 3.0 when it’s released to the public later this year.
A message from Jet Brains pledging their thanks to their users was posted in a blog post today which also touts their new collaboration with Google who has received an extremely high demand for Kotlin in Android Studio, therefore leading to today’s announcement.
When we started the journey with Kotlin over 6 years ago, we aimed at creating a language that would be in line with the same principles that drive our tools – create something that helps developers with the tedious and mundane tasks, allowing them to focus on what’s truly important. And of course make the process as enjoyable and fun as possible.
We want to thank Google and the Android team for their trust in Kotlin, but above all we want to thank you, our community, our users. Without you Kotlin wouldn’t be where it is today. Thank you for accompanying us during this journey and we hope you join us for the exciting road ahead.
